October Events at A+E: The “Great Pumpkin” Edition
As a little blanket-toting pal philosopher named Linus tells it, “each year, the Great Pumpkin rises out of the pumpkin patch that he thinks is the most sincere.” And we’ve got a pretty good feeling that the A+E District has what it takes to get the Great Pumpkin to crash its party. Don’t believe us? Check out this month’s Miami Flea, along with the rest of our October happenings.
Sunday, October 15, 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. // The Miami Flea: Pumpkin Patch
It’s baaaaack… (yes, that’s an obligatory “Poltergeist” reference). Hosted by El Tucan’s Miss T, this month’s Flea is hoping you’ll find the Jack O’ Lantern of your dreams in its pumpkin patch. After you’ve looked over the candidates and snapped a few fall-themed pics, browse the wares from dozens of vendors, artisans, and food purveyors before filling up on savory bites from local vendors. Raquel Sofia, Uncle Scotchy, and Amin (Suenalo) and Smurphio (Afrobeta) will be gracing you with their smooth melodies as you sit back and sip on a little somethin’ somethin’ with kick. Oh, and don’t forget to throw on some boots and leave the sandals at home—it’s fall, after all.
Thursday, October 19, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. // Rooftop Unplugged with Robbie Elias
Marc Anthony, Ricky Martin, Alejandro Sanz, Don Omar, Chayanne—what do these pop stars have in common? Answer: the Magic City’s very own Robbie Elias. The Miami-born singer has written songs, toured and sung with powerhouse performers from all around the world. Lucky for us, he’ll be throwing it down live on the A+E rooftop this month.
In 2012, he released his first English language album “Magic City,” a soulful blend of pop, rock and R&B that gained him the respect of critics and fans alike. Known as “Miami’s King of Pop,” Robbie puts on one of those shows that just stays with you for a good long while. The date’s October 19—so open your iCal and do what you gotta do.
Saturday, October 21, 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. // Virtual Dimensions: Virtual Reality + Interactive Art + Music from the Future
We may not have Emmett “Doc” Brown’s mad time traveling skills (or a DeLorean), but we can deliver the next best thing: a virtual reality (VR) event that does a really convincing job of making you think you’ve gone back to the future. We’re setting up VR stations at CANVAS that’ll show you what’s ahead for the A+E District along with interactive art stations with an eye to the future. You’ll meet some of Miami’s top technology companies, listen to emerging electronic talent and in case things get a bit too… trippy, we’ve got bubbly on hand to ease the way.
Looking for more info on what’s coming up at A+E? Want to save your spot for one these events? (Great idea, by the way.) Swing by our Eventbrite page at aedistrictmiami.eventbrite.com to get all the 411 and to RSVP.
