Miami Awakens the Wellness Warrior in All of Us
Art, music, and food consistently bring our community together – add wellness and the word ‘free’ to the mix and attention sparks just as quickly.
As a whole, our community has shown an increase in value to personal health and well-being with more vegan and plant-based cafés opening doors, local wellness & beauty brands coming to life and much more. Wellness events free of charge and open to the public are becoming more accessible, thus popular. This past weekend proved our community is eager to partake in such a movement.
Our neighbors at PAMM and Equinox have joined forces to bring us the ARTworkOUT series, a free program combining art and fitness in Miami with a resplendent view. The second event of the series took place on Saturday, February 25th, as Equinox instructor Adrian Molina introduced us to his newly developed yoga practice, Warrior Flow. Scheduled to take place on the last Saturday of upcoming months until May, ARTworkOUT brings an array of workout activities.
9:45 a.m. and attendees gathered quickly to find a spot trying to fill every nook possible on PAMM’s terrace and still about 30 yogis/yoginis waiting patiently to check-in. All eagerly anticipating a morning kick start with a challenging mind and body practice ahead.
Locals sat on their mats focusing on their breath, others rubbing and deeply inhaling essential oils brought from home and best of all setting cellphones aside ready to disconnect as class was about to begin. Within minutes, all foreheads were touching the mat during child’s pose as the group set their intention for class. Five sets of sun salutations and countless warrior poses later (hence warrior flow), people were feeling the burn and breaking the sweat they signed up for. Still, with optimism on their faces pushing through for what was next to come.
All varying in ages, the group flowed in unison, focused and looking like warriors. Even the cutest pups I encountered laid adorably on the ground next to their owner’s mat. Closing off the practice with a two-minute savasana, I witnessed the beauty of stillness – chests were moving slower now, bodies relaxed, and faces cooling down from the invigorating practice. Not a single body moving – mind blowing!
Similar to the ARTworkOUT series, a shift in wellness has begun with more businesses merging together to provide our community with amazing free activities. Ask yourself – wouldn’t you want to practice under a judgment-free zone with other locals who genuinely share a similar interest as yourself? Whether yoga, cardio, Pilates, etc. it’s an opportunity to let go, practice gratitude, network and most importantly engage in health & wellness.
Let’s get involved and try something new together to improve our health as a group!
