August Events at A+E: The “Kweens” Edition
Like Beyoncé serving up a tall glass of icy cold “lemonade,” A+E’s coming into August with some refreshing events that embrace women who are owning their moment. Feeling the empowerment, yet? You will after checking out these three events going down at the A + E District this month:
Friday, August 18, 8:30 – 10 a.m. // CreativeMornings at Canvas
Genius. Edison says it’s 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. Clearly, he underestimated the power of a double-shot latte to fuel it. So, grab a steamy cup of Joe and an early morning nosh at this month’s CreativeMornings, a breakfast lecture series for the creative community. Head on over to Canvas and sip on Vice City Beans’ killer brews while local creatives and entrepreneurs tackle the topic of “genius.” Hosted by Malik Benjamin, Najja Moon, founder oF BLCK family artist collective, leads the conversation. Dress code: an on-trend thinking cap.
Sunday, August 20, 4 – 8 p.m. // Miami Flea: August and Everything After
Yep, we’re feeling the ‘Crows round here. Our community market is back with dozens of vendors, artisans, food purveyors and musicians in tow. Oigo, Cortadito and The State Of will be bringing the ear candy with their melodic tunes while you fill up on delectable snacks from local eateries and cool down with some frosty beverages of the adult ilk (maybe some lemonade…ahem?). And don’t forget to bring the fam—babies (and fur babies) love to hangout under our trees. Celebrate the last day of summer and Lisa Frank it up; we’ll have a school supplies drive before we’re back to school the next day.
Wednesday, August 30, 8:30 – 10 a.m. // Summer Soirée presented by Women in Leadership
Meet WILL, the Women in Leadership League. Who are they? They’re females who are cultivating creativity, motivation and connection to grow businesses and strategic branding through women’s empowerment. And we’re loving this particular bit from their site: “Our community is meant for leaders but embodies those who fulfill their lives with leadership as mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, friends, colleagues, business owners, managers to CEOs.” YAS, ladies. And at the end of the month, we’re hosting a professional networking event in partnership that’ll be focusing on key topics impacting women in business. Sisters are doin’ it for themselves, indeed.
